Lauren Schneider:
Wonderland Founder
I began designing gardens in 2000, and have been caring for and renovating gardens since 1998. I believe that gardens are wonderlands, magical, marvelous places of great and/or strange beauty, where the imaginary seems nearly possible. I believe that Wonderland is within everyone's reach, and I delight in discovering and creating these special places and spaces. I never tire of discovering new plants, and rediscovering old plants. My plant pallet includes many less common species, many of which come from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. I love plants that stop me in my tracks and compel me to take notice of their extraordinary beauty and/or uniqueness, or their surprising unusualness, peculiarity, or even outrageousness. It is these plants that are my building blocks in a wonderland garden.

My associates and I embrace and enjoy many different garden and landscape styles: from tropical hideaways to Japanese sanctuaries; from "New Wave" style, perennial meadows or "natural gardens" to funky, urban rooftop/party space garden-in-containers. We primarily specialize in Mediterranean and Mediterranean-eclectic gardens, which have mostly low water needs and/or are drought tolerant, and which often include California native plants. These gardens are most successful in our Bay Area climate (Mediterranean), and are most "green" - that is, operating and thriving within the parameters of the natural resources at our disposal. We are fortunate that this group of plants includes many of the interesting plants I've mentioned, and additionally, many Mediterranean species as well as cacti, succulents and exotics form various parts of the world.
