Get a jump start on your Cherry harvest with the early-season Santina™ Sweet Cherry Tree (Prunus avium 'Santina') from Nature Hills! Bursting onto the scene with lush long Cherry tree foliage, weeping habit, and fragrant drifts of pink blossoms as early as April, the Santina™ Cherry will already make planting one worthwhile!

But then comes the sweet heart-shaped fruit that is super dark red inside and out Santina™ Cherries are slightly sweet and great for all your summer recipes! Very early season, the crisp flesh resists cracking and hangs on the tree for an extended time so you can harvest in stages!

A self-fertile Sweet Cherry Tree, Santina™ allows for edible landscaping without needing a second tree throughout USDA hardiness zones 5 - 8. Upright and slim, the weeping form grows 15-20 tall and only spreads 12-15 feet wide.

Planting and Application:

Santina™ Sweet Cherry Trees are gorgeous trees that set a crop of delicious fruit successfully without a pollinator. So go ahead and drop one in your front lawn as a flowering specimen tree! Everyone does better with a friend, so you can create groupings of Santina™ Cherry Trees to help maximize pollination between them all for an even bigger impact on your curb appeal, and a larger harvest!

Keep your tree as a low shrub form, with its branches low to the ground. You can trim this tree smaller or even keep it as a short shrub with the branches to the ground for easier harvest and to save space! This way you can include it in your hedgerow or linear orchard hedge that double as screening and property division!

The birds will love you and harvesting the delectable fruit will be easier! Covering your tree with Bird Netting will be easier if you aren't willing to share! Let your Satina™ grow to full height and enjoy a large shade tree around your seating areas or backyard entertaining hotspots, enjoying cool shade and tasty fresh treats within arms reach! #ProPlantTips for Care

Plant your Cherry Tree in full sun for the most flowers and fruit, planted in a well-drained enriched environment with ample moisture access. All plants appreciate some of Nature Hills Root Booster used during planting and top-dressed with 3-4 inches of arborist mulch chips over the root system to hold in moisture and insulate the roots. Fruit trees also need regular moisture access and scheduled fertilizer routines as well.

When dormant in the late winter or early spring is the best time to prune your Cherry Tree, after fruiting works well for light pruning and shaping, but late winter is best for thinning. Ask the County Extension Office in your area for the best pruning times to prevent disease spread.
