Striking Beyond Blue™ Festuca (Festuca glauca 'Casca11') is a breeding breakthrough in Ornamental Grasses. It is a charming, powder-blue grass that stays bright without browning! This easy-care, semi-evergreen cool-season grass variety adds beauty, motion and energy to your garden. They'll catch every breeze!
Densely held, tufts of thin blades cascade down to form a little clump. Beyond Blue™ will fit in small space gardens, and also brings enormous visual impact for large lots. Compact, mounded Beyond Blue™ Festuca catches the eye with its tidy mop of steely blue-gray foliage. Flowers rise above the blade-like needles and mature to brown.
Beyond Blue™ keeps its shape and color all year. It is extremely cold-hardy but also loves the sun, heat and humidity. This highly adaptable plant is water-wise and drought resistant once established. Enjoy its low-maintenance nature in your space.
The personable little mounds of Beyond Blue™ Festuca help you smile all year long. Order yours from Nature Hills. It's a perfect small grass for your garden.
How to Use Beyond Blue™ Festuca in the Landscape
A single Fescue looks fantastic in a small outdoor container. Try a series of matching containers to help define the boundary of a garden room or balcony. You can even leave them in a sheltered spot for wintertime, or plant them in a permanent spot in the garden in the fall.
Grow a long row of them in the ground as a soft edging. They are extremely attractive when used in a narrow band along a walkway. Create a wonderful garden moment with a carefree groundcover application. Fill a wide, bare area with additional rows in a checkerboard planting pattern.
Space them 10 inches apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next. Mulch between grasses in a newly installed mass planting and keep the new planting weeded until the clumps grow together and touch.
Once Beyond Blue™ Festuca is established in your soil, it will not need supplemental watering. Add it to a highly effective Xeriscaping planting or Rock Garden. The unearthly blue-green blades even look right at home in the Moon Garden!
Improve the looks of mature plantings with the metallic blue blades of this small grass. Create a new mulched bed on the sunny side of evergreen trees or shrubs and let this clumping grass shine in the sun.
#ProPlantTips for Care
Beyond Blue™ Festuca needs a minimum of six hours of sunlight a day. The more sun, the better color. Festuca needs well-drained soil that doesn't hold water for long. Add extra soil 18 inches high and 3 feet wide to create a planting mound if you suffer from poor drainage.
For the first year, pay close attention to regular watering. It then becomes a low-water usage, xeric plant. If you are growing in containers, water regularly over the life of the plant. In extended drought, consider giving in-ground plants water to protect your investment.
Gain winter interest by leaving the foliage standing in fall. You'll enjoy the winter interest effect of Beyond Blue™ peeking from a layer of fresh snow. Cut all stems to a few inches from the ground in early spring before new growth emerges. Use a utility saw, jab saw or hacksaw for fast results. These cool-season grasses are fast to grow in the spring!
Add these fine-textured, blue grasses to your landscape. Give them sun and good drainage. Sit back, survey your kingdom and feel proud of your smart choice.
